Frequently Asked Questions About Petrie Boots

We’ve gathered the most frequently asked questions we receive about Petrie boots to help you make an informed decision when selecting your custom or semi-custom boots. Whether you're curious about fit, style options, or customization, you'll find all the answers you need below.

Where are Petrie riding boots manufactured?
Petrie riding boots are made in the Netherlands. The brand is known for its high-quality craftsmanship, using durable leathers and advanced production techniques to create custom and semi-custom boots that offer both style and performance for riders.

What’s the difference between custom and semi-custom boots?
Custom Boots: Made-to-measure for a perfect fit, with unlimited design options for leather, color, stitching, and details. Ideal for unique sizing needs or a fully personalized look.
Semi-Custom Boots: Based on standard sizes with adjustable options like calf width and height. Offers limited customization and a more affordable alternative to custom boots.

What aspects of semi-custom boots can be personalized?
Some semi-custom boots offer the option to add specific rands or cuffs for an additional fee, allowing you to personalize your boots further. Most of our semi-custom styles are available in black, brown, cognac, or navy at no extra cost.

Are semi-custom boots more budget-friendly than fully custom ones?
Yes, semi-custom boots are more budget-friendly than fully custom ones. They offer adjustable fit options and limited design personalization while being based on standard sizes, making them more affordable than fully tailored, made-to-measure boots.

Do I have to be fitted in person?
No! We can do measurements in person at our Sharon, Ontario, or Red Deer, Alberta store, OR we also offer virtual fitting appointments via Zoom, where we guide you through how to take all the necessary measurements and answer all of your questions at your convenience.

What style options can I customize (e.g., tops, piping, stitching)?

  • Tops: Choose unique rands or cuffs to add to your boots, or opt for other decorative finishes for a personalized touch.

  • Stitching: Select different thread colors or patterns to enhance the design.

  • Colors: Mix and match leathers in a range of colors, from classic black to vibrant tones.

  • Footbed: Choose from a classic black footbed or a more unique look with a gorgeous contrast footbed.

  • Additional Essentials: Complete your look with other accessories like whip holders, spur rests, or even a knee pillow for added functionality and style.

What measurements are required for semi-custom boots?

  • Foot Size: Your standard shoe size.

  • Calf Width: Measured around the fullest part of the calf.

  • Boot Height: Measured from the floor to the desired height of the boot, usually at the back of the leg.

How long does it take to make and deliver custom or semi-custom boots?
Semi-custom boots usually take about 8-10 weeks to come in, and custom boots usually take about 10-12 weeks. However, our shipments can be delayed sometimes due to customs and international shipping delays.

What’s the difference between calf leather and cow leather?

  • Calf Leather: Known for its fine, smooth grain and luxurious finish, calf leather is highly durable for its weight and thickness. It’s ideal for those seeking a stiff dress boot as it can be stretched tightly over the shaft for a rock-hard feel. It breaks in quickly, offering comfort from the start while maintaining its elegant look and long-lasting durability.

  • Cow Leather: A durable and practical choice for all-purpose or schooling boots, cow leather has a coarser, more pronounced grain. It’s often heavier and stiffer than calf leather, taking longer to break in. However, it offers excellent support, is less prone to scratches and scuffs, and is an affordable option for budget-conscious riders.
